Lena and Steve have lived in Cambridge for 20 years. With a large comfortable house in the suburbs of Cambridge, they have enjoyed hosting international students for five years. They love Cambridge and all it has to offer, and they are currently working on a ‘Cambridge Room’ that is adorned with various items from around the beautiful university city. Lena and Steve generally host students who are day students at Cambridge colleges.
Steve teaches English online to international students and Lena is busy looking after the students who stay with them. They really enjoy having people living with them and learning about their cultures. Their dinner table is often a place of laughter, stories and connections between them and the young people that they have in the house.
The couple know it can be hard when students first arrive. They respect the courage it takes at a young age to travel far from home to a new country, so they make sure that the welcome they receive is real, the food they serve is tasty and the bed they have is comfortable. Many of their former students come back to visit or continue to stay in touch long after they have left their home.
Lena’s hobbies are cooking, gardening, listening to music and spending time talking with her students and visiting family. Steve is a karate master and runs his own class which the students who stay with them are also welcome to attend. They enjoy travelling and have recently returned from a three-week trip to China and Japan.
