Become a host family for an international student at MPW Birmingham
Oxford Guardians is lucky to work with families across the UK who share their homes with international students studying for a British education.
In particular we are looking to recruit host families for students aged 15-16 studying at MPW in Birmingham. Host families come in all shapes and sizes! The important thing is that you can offer a safe and supportive environment, and a warm welcome to your international student.
If you pass our checks, which include an interview and home visit, you can join our growing community of host families. We offer full training and support, including expert advice and 24-hour helpline from our management team.
Hosting a day student at MPW
International students at MPW need a home-from-home where they can live as part of the family during term time.
As a long stay host, you become more involved in the life of your student, as you see them day-to-day. They are typically at school all day, so hosts provide half board during the weekdays and full board at weekends. Most students usually travel home to see their families during holidays.
Students enjoy family meals and joining in with your family’s activities, which may involve outdoor activities or simply the chance to relax and unwind from academic pressures.
How it works
As you would expect, we need to ensure that students are going into safe environments so there are checks and procedures in place. We provide, training, guidance and are always at the end of the phone.
Likewise, students have rules and guidelines to follow to ensure the situation is a positive experience for everyone involved.
We pay families a weekly fee for hosting, the first £7,500 of which is tax-free under the Rent-a-Room scheme. We also cover specified expenses.
We are looking for families located in local areas can get themselves to and from MPW based in Edgbaston.
